N.M. Delegation Welcomes Nearly $3 Million to Improve New Mexico’s Airports

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) are welcoming $2,792,276 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to improve airports across New Mexico.  

The FAA grants will fund airfield, safety, and other improvement projects at nine airports across New Mexico.  

“These investments will help modernize our airports so we can keep New Mexico families connected and support local economies, particularly in our rural communities,” said Heinrich. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I’m committed to continuing to deliver this type of funding, making air travel safer, easier, and more accessible.” 

“I’m proud to welcome nearly $2.8 million in funding for nine New Mexico airports from the Biden-Harris administration,” said Luján. “This critical investment will help modernize facilities and enhance safety measures. It is vital for improving our state’s infrastructure and connectivity and underscores a commitment to advancing transportation options.” 

“This $2.7 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration will help improve travel for New Mexicans across the state. In my district, the Gallup Municipal Airport, Lea County Regional Airport, and the Shiprock Airport will receive funds to improve their runways,” said Leger Fernández. “The Biden-Harris Administration continues to invest in the safety and efficiency of travel infrastructure, that’s exactly why I supported the bill that appropriated these funds.” 

“Our airports are important to connecting communities around New Mexico,” said Stansbury. “It is critical the state has modern facilities. I want to thank the Biden-Harris Administration for focusing on updating infrastructure as part of their core issues so that all communities can thrive. This $347 million will go a long way to keeping New Mexicans safe and connected as they fly in the state.” 

“When airports can’t maintain their runways or keep up with demand, local economies are impacted. That’s why I am excited to welcome nearly $2.8 million in federal funding for airport improvements for Hatch, Grants, Silver City, Alamogordo, Hobbs and other communities across the state,” said Vasquez. “I will continue my fight to ensure our rural airports have the resources and infrastructure they need to maintain safe and reliable air service.”
