Heinrich, Luján Welcome Nearly $500,000 to Help Veterans Experiencing Homelessness Reenter Workforce

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) are welcoming the Department of Labor’s announcement that it has awarded $493,867 to Goodwill Industries of New Mexico. This grant is a part of more than $52 million announced by the Department of Labor to help veterans experiencing homelessness return to meaningful employment and to address the complex problems they face upon their return to civilian life.

“By helping veterans who are homeless reenter the workforce, this Department of Labor grant will help uphold our country’s promise to take care of our veterans when they return home while also providing New Mexico employers with highly-skilled employees,” said Senator Luján. “I’m proud to see such a strong investment in New Mexico’s veterans, and I will continue to work to provide more opportunities for our vets to pursue a good-paying job to support their families.”

“Our veterans deserve more than just words of gratitude for their sacrifice when they return home. They deserve the quality care and benefits they have earned – especially when it comes to finding stable employment or putting a roof over their heads,” said Heinrich, Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee that oversees Veterans Affairs funding. “I’m proud to support this funding to accelerate Goodwill’s efforts to help New Mexico’s veterans that are currently, or at risk of, experiencing homelessness find long-term employment. I remain committed to fighting for all the resources and funding that the administration and the VA needs to keep America’s promise to our service members and their families when they return home as veterans.”
