Heinrich, Luján Welcome More Than $3.2 Million In Federal Funding To Revitalize Airport Infrastructure In Carlsbad
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) announced $3,206,168 in federal funding to support infrastructure upgrades at Cavern City Air Terminal in Carlsbad. The funding will be used to reconstruct 5,830 feet of runway, allowing the airport to better maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and minimize foreign object debris.
“Airports like Cavern City Air Terminal strengthen New Mexico’s connection to tourism, commercial aviation, and business opportunities across our state. It is critical that they have the resources necessary to ensure the highest levels of safety and efficiency. I’m pleased to welcome this federal funding that will allow Carlsbad to make much needed upgrades and reconstruct nearly 6,000 feet of runway.” said Heinrich.
“Airports in New Mexico, like Cavern City Air Terminal Airport, are essential in keeping our communities and loved ones connected while boosting our state’s economy,” said Luján. “I’m glad this critical funding from the Department of Transportation will support runway renovations and ensure safer flights for those coming to and from the City of Carlsbad and other surrounding communities.”
The funding was provided through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which supports airport infrastructure projects across the nation.
