Luján Joins U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Becerra To Host A Roundtable Focusing on Youth Mental Health in Schools

Las Cruces, N.M. – Today, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) joined U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra to host a roundtable that focused on youth mental health in schools. During the roundtable, Senator Luján and Secretary Becerra highlighted the funding allotted by the Biden Administration for youth mental health services and school-based health centers. This roundtable discussion served as the official kick-off event for the Senator’s mental health consortium, launched earlier this year to connect individuals with mental health knowledge and expertise to support New Mexico communities.

“It was an honor to join Secretary Becerra for a mental health roundtable with New Mexicans to kick off the mental health consortium that I launched earlier this year,” said Senator Luján. “Our discussion today highlights how working together at the local, state, and federal level will not only improve behavioral health systems in New Mexico, but also impact federal policy that will not only transform mental health services, but save lives. I’m proud of the work that Secretary Becerra has spearheaded at Health and Human Services in addition to the work I’ve led in the Senate that will have a lasting impact on our communities. I look forward to continuing this conversation and finding real, practical solutions to ensure everyone has the tools and resources they need to take care of their mental health.”
