Luján Meets With City Leaders in Santa Rosa and Las Vegas to Tout Investments in Water Systems

Santa Rosa, N.M. – Today, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) traveled to Guadalupe County to highlight the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) he secured for the City of Santa Rosa and surrounding communities. Senator Luján secured $800,000 for improvements to deliver clean drinking water to residents, and the New Mexico Congressional delegation secured $1 million for US 84 highway pavement improvements between Ft. Sumner and Santa Rosa. Last December, Senator Luján and the delegation delivered over $273 million in investments for 146 local projects across New Mexico through the Omnibus Spending Bill that President Biden signed into law.

Senator Luján also visited Las Vegas, New Mexico, and met with city officials to discuss updates to the water treatment system, the new temporary pre-treatment facility, and future needs. Conversations held today focused on the $140 million Congress appropriated for the City of Las Vegas’ water system in the FY23 omnibus. Last November, Senator Luján joined U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and held a public discussion and toured the water system in Las Vegas.

“Today’s visits to Santa Rosa and Las Vegas reinforced how essential it is that we modernize our water infrastructure and provide clean drinking water. These projects are not only necessary for public health, but also the economic vitality of our communities, said Senator Luján. “Since the start of the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire, I’ve been adamant that the federal government needs to be on the forefront of the recovery efforts in northern New Mexico. This $140 million for the water treatment system in Las Vegas is an important component to that. I’m proud to have met with city leaders to discuss the funding from the omnibus spending bill and what more is needed.”
