Luján Statement on Hostage Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the release of hostages:

“I commend President Biden and his administration for their commitment to securing the safe return of 50 hostages taken by Hamas and for negotiating a temporary ceasefire to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. I appreciate the administration’s continued efforts to secure the release of all the hostages.

“Israel and our allies in the region should also use this time to ensure critical humanitarian aid is delivered. These steps will not only protect lives, but help stabilize the region.

“As we look toward Gaza’s future, the horrific October 7th attack made it clear that Hamas must be removed from power. At the same time, to protect the lives of innocent Israelis and Palestinians, we must find a way to move toward a lasting peace through a two-state solution, which includes the creation of a Palestinian state.”
