Luján: Delivering Results for New Mexicans

From legislative victories to constituent services, Luján secured billions for New Mexico in 2022

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) secured $4.5 million in savings for his constituents in 2022 and assisted over 1,100 New Mexicans through casework services. Senator Luján also sent more than 130,000 letters to New Mexicans who contacted the office seeking information on policies and legislative priorities.

This year, Senator Luján introduced 80 bills and amendments with 29 successfully passing the Senate. In total, 24 bills and amendments spearheaded by Luján were signed, or are expected to be signed, by President Biden in service to New Mexico. This includes legislation to provide relief to New Mexicans impacted by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire and legislation to ensure that New Mexico’s National Laboratories remain central to advancing our scientific and technological leadership. In total, Senator Luján and the New Mexico Democratic Delegation secured $3.95 billion for FEMA to carry out the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act.

“With incredible challenges facing our state, I was proud to deliver results for New Mexicans – advancing legislation to help make New Mexicans whole from the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire, invest in our National Laboratories driving innovation, and lower health care costs for working families,” said Luján. “As Chair of the Subcommittee on Communications, Media and Broadband, I also worked to secure broadband investments to bridge the digital divide in rural and Tribal communities and get New Mexico closer to 100% connectivity.

“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve New Mexicans in the Senate, and I remain committed to serving New Mexicans from every corner of the state. Since being elected to Congress, providing robust constituent services has always been a priority for my office, and I’m proud that we were able to assist thousands of New Mexicans in navigating the federal government,” Luján continued. “In the new year, I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support New Mexico families, keep our communities safe, and create new, good-paying jobs.”
