Luján Visits El Centro Family Health, Discusses Efforts to Protect Medicaid, Rural Health Care Access From Republican Attacks
Medicaid covers more than 780,000 people in New Mexico, 33% of the people in the state
Española, N.M. — Today, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.) visited El Centro Family Health in Española to discuss the importance of Medicaid and rural health care access and his efforts to protect it from attacks. Senator Luján discussed the Trump administration’s efforts to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and critical federal funding with El Centro Family Health leadership.
El Centro Family Health provides affordable and quality health care and essential health education to communities across 22,000 square miles in seven counties across Northern New Mexico. Earlier this week, Senator Luján visited the Mary Esther Gonzales Senior Center in Santa Fe to meet with seniors and discuss his efforts to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for New Mexicans.

It was a privilege to meet with leadership from El Centro Family Health and hear firsthand how the profound impacts of their care benefits communities across Northern New Mexico,” said Senator Luján.
“Despite promises from President Trump and Congressional Republicans to not cut Medicaid, they are going back on their word to gut essential programs for working families to fund a tax scam for the wealthiest Americans and corporations. Medicaid is a lifeline for babies, mothers, and seniors in New Mexico,” continued Senator Luján. Standing up for health care for New Mexicans is a priority for me, and I will continue fighting to protect Medicaid against attacks from Elon Musk, President Trump, and Congressional Republicans.”
